Traveler's Company's B6 Spiral Ring Notebook is built around MD Paper, a proprietary stock developed by Midori in the 1960s that has since earned a devoted following among fountain pen users, pencil enthusiasts, and anyone who cares about how a page actually feels.
The paper weighs in at 80gsm - substantial without being heavy - and carries a very slight tooth that gives pencil and pen strokes a satisfying resistance. Ink sits well on the surface, with minimal feathering and no bleed-through under normal writing conditions. Shading from quality fountain pen inks comes through clearly.
The white version is notably bright without being harsh, a clean contrast to the cream-toned paper found in Midori's standard MD Notebooks.
Each notebook holds 100 sheets (200 pages) of blank MD Paper, bound with a single silver spiral ring attached by hand at the Nagareyama Factory, roughly 40 kilometres from central Tokyo - a workshop that has been producing notebooks for more than fifty years.
The ring binding means pages lie completely flat when open, and individual pages can be folded back without resistance, which matters when you're working at a small table or sketching in a tight space.
The cover is made from resin-infused card that resists wear and flexes without cracking. It carries a small embossed polar bear motif, a quiet nod to the white paper within.
At B6 format — 128mm wide by 182mm tall, with a depth of approximately 18mm — this notebook sits comfortably between A6 and A5. It opens to a usable writing area that doesn't feel cramped, yet the overall footprint is compact enough to slip into a jacket pocket or the front section of a travel bag. It's the size you reach for at a café, on a train, or anywhere a thought needs capturing before it moves on.
