On the page it reads as a serious, authoritative tone, yet the medium shading it produces keeps it from ever feeling flat or inert. In larger swabs and broad nibs, the shading becomes genuinely lovely - the ink catching light and shadow in the way a restless sea does.
This is a grey with real personality. It sits closer to anthracite than silver, with a cool undertone that makes it feel modern without being cold. It dries in approximately 30 seconds on quality paper with a medium nib and delivers an average, reliable flow — predictable enough for daily writing, characterful enough to reward those who pay attention to it.
The Ink Itself
Gris de Houleis non-toxic, pH neutral, water-based, and formulated with all-natural dyes — it flows smoothly and is safe for use in all fountain pens. It is also vegan and quick-drying. It performs best on quality fountain pen papers such as Rhodia, Tomoe River, or Leuchtturm. On inexpensive copy paper it may feather, so it rewards being paired with paper that deserves it.
There is no sheen and no shimmer - this is a purist's ink, and that restraint is a deliberate choice. What it offers instead is depth, subtlety, and the kind of shading that makes handwriting worth looking at twice.

Care and Use
