The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran

Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet is one of the most widely read books of the twentieth century, a slim, lyrical work that has found its way onto bedside tables, wedding reading lists and gift shelves for over a hundred years. Set in the fictional city of Orphalese, it follows the prophet Almustafa, who is asked by the people of the city to share his wisdom before he sails for home. Across its short chapters he speaks on love, marriage, children, work, joy and sorrow, giving, and death, in prose that reads almost like verse.

This hardcover gift edition is designed to be given, kept, and returned to. It's a pocket-sized hardcover with a protective dust jacket, measuring 19.4 x 11.6 x 1.6cm, with 64 pages printed on archival paper for long-term durability.

The edition includes 12 of Gibran's own original illustrations, reproduced from his drawings, sitting alongside the text much as they did in the first edition nearly a century ago.

It's a book people tend to come back to at different points in life, which makes it a genuinely useful gift rather than a decorative one. Give it for a wedding, a graduation, a new parent, a retirement, or someone working through a hard year, or keep a copy on your own shelf.

  • Compact format: 19.4 cm high x 11.6 cm wide x 1.6 cm deep, 64 pages
