What makes the ink different
Each pen is filled with STAEDTLER's Multi Ink, a water-based, translucent India ink made with high-quality pigments rather than dye. The practical difference shows up over time: the colour doesn't shift or fade, even after years in direct light. Lightfastness for each shade is independently classified against the blue wool and grey scales (DIN EN ISO 105-B01, DIN 16525 and DIN EN 20105-A02), so this isn't a marketing claim, it's a tested standard.
Once dry, the ink is smudge-free, meaning you can layer washes or go back over your lines without lifting colour or picking up stray marks. It doesn't bleed or show through the page, so both sides of a sheet stay usable, and it dries fast enough to keep a sketching session moving. The ink is also permanent and waterproof, which makes it a sound choice for mixed media work where watercolour or other wet media will go over the top.
For artists who want more tonal control, the colour-neutral Blender 893 or 893 BP can be used to dissolve the Multi Ink on the page, opening up soft gradients and blended effects without needing a separate set of markers.
The brush tip
The nib is a proper flexible brush, not a felt substitute. It holds its shape well and responds to pressure, so you can pull a fine hairline for detail work or lay down a broad stroke for filling in shapes and bold lettering, all from the same pen.
