STAEDTLER Pigment Brush Pen 371 Lettering Set

STAEDTLER Pigment Brush Pen 371 Lettering Set

Everything you need to start brush lettering, sketching or illustrating in one tidy box. This set from STAEDTLER pairs the brand's pigment brush pens, built around their Multi Ink formula, with a fineliner, pencil, eraser and sharpener, so you can go from rough sketch to finished piece without reaching for a second toolkit.

What's in the box

  • 4 pigment brush pens in assorted colours
  • 1 pigment soft brush pen
  • 1 pigment pen (fineliner)
  • 1 drawing pencil
  • 1 eraser
  • 1 metal sharpener
  • Cardboard storage box

Why this ink holds up
The brush pens use Staedtler's Multi Ink, a water-based India ink loaded with high-quality pigments. Once it's dry, which doesn't take long, you can layer colour on top without smudging the layer underneath, and the ink won't bleed or show through most papers. That makes it genuinely useful for mixed media work, where you're often building up washes, pencil and pen marks on the same page.

Lightfastness is rated against the blue wool and grey scales so colours stay true rather than fading or shifting after long exposure to light. If you're framing lettering pieces or keeping a sketchbook you'll want to look back on in years, that matters more than it sounds.

Once fully cured, the ink is permanent and waterproof. If you want more flexibility while it's still workable, the Staedtler colour-neutral blender can be used to soften and blend the Multi Ink before it sets.

Brush tip, pencil tip, your choice of line
The brush nib is stable and easy to control, which is the main thing to look for in a brush pen. It holds its shape well enough for confident, repeatable strokes, and the flex in the tip lets you move from a fine upstroke to a broad downstroke in one movement, which is the whole point of brush lettering. The pigment pen included in the set gives you a consistent fine line for outlining or detail work, and the drawing pencil is there for laying out your composition before you commit to ink.

Good on most surfaces

These pens are built to work across the range of papers artists actually use, along with most other surfaces you'd want to mark. Whether you're working in a smooth-finish sketchbook, on watercolour paper, or on toned stock for lettering practice, the ink lays down evenly without feathering.

A few practical details

  • Pen housings are made from 97% recycled plastic
  • Manufactured in Germany
  • Toxicologically tested
  • Packaging materials are PEFC certified

Good for

Hand lettering, modern calligraphy practice, sketching, illustration, journaling and colouring. It's a solid starting set if you're new to brush lettering and don't want to buy pens, a fineliner and a pencil separately, and it's compact enough to keep in a bag if you like to practise away from your desk.
