Pomegranate Sherrie Wolf "Sea of Tea" 1000-Piece Puzzle

The Painting
There is a particular kind of memory that lives in objects - not events exactly, but the weight and warmth of things we have held and carried. Sherrie Wolf has built a career painting exactly that territory, and Sea of Tea is among her most quietly affecting works.

Set against a rippling sea of blue satin, a collection of teacups floats with a dreamlike stillness. The image recalls a real journey: Wolf's own mother crossing the Pacific Ocean from New Zealand to the United States in the years just after the Second World War, her belongings and family history packed carefully alongside her. The teacups carry that freight. As Wolf herself has said, "We can recognise a commonality that connects one generation to another, one era to another. My hope is to learn from our past by looking at it intensely."

Wolf's still life compositions are grounded in a deep familiarity with Old Master traditions, drawing on the 17th-century Dutch still life and 19th-century American trompe l'oeil as touchstones, while speaking in an entirely contemporary voice. Painter Frank Stella once observed that in great art all the relationships sparkle, radiating coherence - and it is precisely that musicality of relationships, the interplay between the loud, the quiet, and the spaces between, that defines Wolf's work. She is represented in the collections of the Portland Art Museum, the Tacoma Art Museum, and the Hallie Ford Museum, and her paintings have been exhibited in solo shows from Long Beach to Ashland.

The Puzzle
Pomegranate works directly with artists and institutions to produce puzzles that are faithful to the original work - not in a loose, approximate sense, but with genuine colour accuracy and tonal fidelity. Sea of Tea is printed on 250gsm matte art-paper, which renders the subtle gradations of Wolf's satin backdrop and the delicate porcelain surfaces of her teacups without any distracting glare. The pieces are cut from thick recycled board using a ribbon cut, which means they interlock with a satisfying, precise fit and generate minimal dust during assembly.

This is a 1000-piece puzzle, which puts it in the ideal range for an afternoon session shared with others, or a longer solo engagement spread across several evenings. The challenge is real - expanses of blue satin are notoriously absorbing to work through - but the experience is deeply rewarding rather than frustrating. A 23 × 30.5cm reference insert of the completed image is included in the box, which is a practical touch that serious puzzlers will appreciate.
