Every year LAMY releases a single special edition colourway for the AL-star, and for this release they've gone back to the roller disco era.
Rollerskate pairs a bright pink anodised aluminium barrel with a translucent blue grip section and a matching blue clip and trim. It's a striking combination, and one that won't be sitting on shelves for long once this edition sells out.
Underneath the colour, this is the same AL-star that's earned its place as one of the most dependable fountain pens on the market.
The body is lightweight anodised aluminium, more durable than the plastic Safari it's based on, while keeping the weight low enough for long writing sessions.
The barrel has two flattened sides so the pen won't roll off your desk, and a small ink window lets you keep an eye on levels without unscrewing anything.
The transparent grip section is more than decorative. It gives you a clear view of the feed and ink flow, and its triangular shape guides your fingers into a proper grip, which makes this a genuinely useful pen for anyone still refining their hold. LAMY's spring-loaded steel clip is strong enough to hold the pen securely to a notebook cover or shirt pocket without loosening over time.
The pen takes an interchangeable LAMY steel nib, so if extra fine, fine, medium or broad suits your handwriting better than the fitted size, you can simply swap it. It's compatible with LAMY T10 ink cartridges (one blue cartridge is included) or the LAMY Z28 converter if you'd rather fill from a bottle. Note that the converter is sold separately.
