The body is made from lightweight, durable anodised aluminium rather than the moulded plastic used on the Safari, giving it a bit more heft and a cooler feel in the hand without adding real weight. The triangular grip zone, a signature of LAMY's ergonomic pens, encourages a proper three-finger hold and makes this a genuinely good option for anyone still developing their grip, as well as for experienced writers who simply prefer the shape.
The transparent grip section isn't just decorative. It gives you a clear view of the ink feed, so you can see at a glance how much ink you have left and watch the mechanism at work as you write.
Each pen comes fitted with a polished stainless steel nib, available in extra fine, fine, or medium widths. Nibs are interchangeable, so if your writing style changes or you simply want to try a different width later, you can swap the nib yourself without needing a new pen.
The AL-star Disco fills using LAMY's proprietary cartridge system. One blue LAMY T10 ink cartridge is included so you can start writing straight away, and the pen also accepts the LAMY Z28 converter (sold separately) if you'd rather use bottled ink. The cap is a simple snap-on design, and the pen can be posted (with the cap fitted to the back of the barrel) for those who prefer a longer pen while writing.
