Terre de Feu - French for "Land of Fire" - is a red-brown ink that earns its name. The colour sits somewhere between scorched earth and aged terracotta: warm, serious, and quietly distinctive on the page. It is not a bright red and it is not a neutral brown. It occupies its own territory, and writers who spend time with it tend to find it hard to walk past.
About the Ink
Jacques Herbin has been producing ink in Paris since 1670, making it the oldest name in fine writing ink in the world. The house supplied ink to Louis XIV, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Victor Hugo. In 1700, the line known as "La Perle des Encres" - The Jewel of Inks - was established on the Rue des Fosses Saint-Germain, and the standard of manufacture has remained consistent ever since.
Terre de Feu is formulated with all-natural dyes and a water-based composition, resulting in a pH-neutral ink that is gentle on both modern and vintage fountain pens. It flows smoothly without being wet, dries in approximately 40 seconds on standard paper with a medium nib, and offers medium water resistance once dry. Shading is low, which makes it a reliable, consistent performer for everyday writing rather than a showpiece ink. There is no sheen and no shimmer - just a clean, characterful line.
About the Cartridges
Each tin contains six standard international short cartridges with a snap-in design. They are compatible with the majority of fountain pens that accept standard international cartridges. Please note they are not compatible with Sheaffer, Parker, Lamy, A.T. Cross, Pilot, Namiki, Sailor, Platinum, or Aurora pens, which use proprietary cartridge formats.
The cartridges are housed in a small cylindrical metal tin - compact enough for a jacket pocket or pencil case, and considered by many collectors as worth keeping once empty.

A note on the colour: Terre de Feu photographs differently depending on paper stock and light. On smoother, whiter papers it reads closer to a rust or sienna. On cream or aged paper it deepens considerably. If you are uncertain, it pairs well with warm-toned notebooks such as the Rhodia Rhodiarama or any Clairefontaine paper.
