Jacques Herbin Ink Cartridges | Ambre de Birmanie | Tin of 6
Jacques Herbin has been making fine writing inks in Paris since 1700, making it the oldest ink house in the world. The "Jewel of Inks" collection is the heart of that legacy: a range of colours formulated with all-natural dyes, a neutral pH, and a consistency that has been refined over three centuries.
Ambre de Birmanie - Amber of Burma - is one of the most distinctive shades in the Herbin range. It takes its name and inspiration from fossilised tree resin, a material that carries millions of years of natural history within its warm, translucent depths. On paper, the ink renders as a medium golden yellow with a gentle lean toward amber and, with broader nibs or heavier ink deposit, a soft shift into orange-brown. It shades pleasingly across a range of nib widths, showing its best character with medium and broad nibs where the tonal variation becomes most apparent.
This is an ink with a quiet, considered personality. It works well for correspondence, journalling, and line drawing. Artists using fountain or dip pens will find it useful as a mid-tone, particularly in sketching where warm, natural hues serve the subject. It implies light without shouting about it.
