Jacques Herbin The Colours of Paris Softcover Notebook A5 - Rue de la Verrerie

A notebook with an address

Rue de la Verrerie is not just a name. It was the address of the Jacques Herbin house in 1810, a working street in the heart of Paris where the art of ink-making was practised with seriousness and craft. This notebook carries that name, and with it a quiet sense of history that belongs to one of the oldest writing instrument houses in the world.

Founded in 1670, Jacques Herbin has been making ink in France for more than 350 years. The Colours of Paris collection is a direct expression of that heritage, each piece in the range named for a place, a landmark, or a moment in the story of the house. The Rue de la Verrerie notebook sits within that collection naturally.

The paper
The interior is 120 gsm ivory paper, smooth and substantial underhand. At this weight, fountain pen inks behave well: bleed-through is not a concern, and the surface holds ink with a pleasing degree of resistance. Whether your preference runs to fine nibs and light inks or broader nibs and saturated colours, the paper performs consistently. It is equally suited to ballpoint, pencil, and rollerball use.

The pages are lined and bound with a thread-sewn construction, which means the notebook opens flat without forcing and holds its shape over time. This is the kind of binding that outlasts the glue-bound alternative by a significant margin.

Size and format
At A5 (14.8 x 21 cm), this is a practical size for a desk, a bag, or a coat pocket. Large enough to write freely, compact enough not to be a burden. The lined format suits note-taking, journalling, correspondence drafts, or daily writing practice.

The cover is softcover, giving the notebook a degree of flexibility that hardcovers do not. It sits flat under the hand and does not resist the page as you write.

The Colours of Paris
The notebook is designed to coordinate with the Jacques Herbin Colours of Paris ink series. The Rue de la Verrerie ink is a blue-grey shade drawn from the colour of Parisian street signs and stone pavement, a tone that sits between slate and cerulean without committing to either. Together, notebook and ink make a considered pairing for anyone who attends to that sort of detail.
