The barrel is turned from ebony heartwood, the densest and darkest timber in the world. Each piece is unique. The Caravelle Rollerball uses standard international refills, giving it a smooth, consistent line without the maintenance that comes with a fountain pen. The ink flow is immediate, the cap posts securely, and the balance in the hand is good. The pen is 137.7mm capped and 127.2mm uncapped, with a barrel diameter ranging from 10.6 to 13.3mm. It sits comfortably between slim and substantial.
The palladium cap adds some weight to the upper body, but the pen remains manageable unposted and well balanced posted for longer writing sessions.
Materials and Construction
The body is ebony heartwood, and the Jacques Herbin logo is engraved on the pen. It carries an international guarantee and is made in France. The Caravelle line pairs rare timber with noble metals throughout, and the ebony and palladium combination is the most restrained and quietly striking of the range.
