A fountain pen that earns its place on the desk
Rhodia has been producing some of Europe's most quietly respected stationery since 1934, and the scRipt Fountain Pen carries that same conviction. It is not a pen trying to announce itself.
The design is restrained and considered, shaped by the same geometric logic as the iconic orange notepad, and it writes with the kind of smooth consistency that makes you reach for it again and again.
Design and construction
The hexagonal barrel is machined from brushed aluminium, giving the pen a solid, balanced feel in the hand without unnecessary weight. The hex profile keeps the pen from rolling off a desk, a practical detail that matters more than it sounds.
The grip section is a smooth cylinder, comfortable for extended writing sessions, and the snap cap fits with a satisfying, decisive click - ideal for note-taking where you need to cap and uncap quickly without interrupting your train of thought.
A sturdy pocket clip runs the length of the cap, engraved with the Rhodia logo, and a small black rubber band holds the posted cap securely in place. Everything about the construction feels considered rather than decorative.
The nib
The iridium nib is made in Germany and embossed with the Rhodia logo and nib width. It lays down ink smoothly and consistently, with the characteristic feedback of a well-tuned European nib. The fine nib writes at approximately 0.5 to 0.7mm, comparable to a Lamy or other European fine - generous enough to show off a good ink, controlled enough for everyday correspondence and journalling.
Available fine (F) and bold (B) nibs. Sold separately.
Ink system
The scRipt comes supplied with a long universal ink converter and accepts both short and long universal cartridges, as well as the standard European converter - meaning it works with the full range of bottled inks from makers like Jacques Herbin, Pilot Iroshizuku, and others. The converter is included in the box, so you can fill it with bottled ink straight away without purchasing anything additional.

Pairing suggestion
The scRipt was designed with Rhodia's own notepads in mind. The 90g Clairefontaine-milled paper in every Rhodia pad is exceptionally fountain pen friendly - no bleed-through, no feathering, and a surface that brings out the shading in a well-chosen ink. If you're building a considered writing kit rather than simply a collection, this pen and a Rhodia No. 16 or No. 19 notepad make a coherent and practical pairing.
Who this pen is for
The scRipt sits in the space between everyday workhorse and considered gift. It is a genuine fountain pen - not a novelty - at a price point that makes it accessible without compromising on the quality of the writing experience. For someone new to fountain pens, it removes the usual barriers: the converter is included, the nib is well-calibrated out of the box, and the snap cap means there's no threading involved. For an experienced writer, it offers a reliable, aesthetically coherent pen that travels well and performs consistently.
It arrives in a clean cardboard box with a window — presentable as a gift without the unnecessary theatre of oversized packaging.
