Kon-peki. In Japanese, the name evokes the deep, unbroken blue of a clear summer sky. The word itself is drawn from the Japanese natural landscape, and the ink earns the reference. Pilot Iroshizuku Kon-pekiis a brilliant, high-saturation blue with a character that sits somewhere between cerulean and azure: vivid without being aggressive, and consistent enough to use for everyday writing without second-guessing it.

The Iroshizuku line takes its name from two Japanese words: Iro, meaning colouring, and Shizuku, meaning droplet. Since its launch in 2007, the Iroshizuku collection has been a favourite among fountain pen enthusiasts for good reason. The inks are formulated to flow smoothly, behave reliably across a wide range of nibs and papers, and deliver colour that holds up to repeated use.

Kon-pekiflows on the wetter side, producing a smooth, generous line with strong colour from the first stroke. It dries in under 30 seconds on most papers and cleans out of a pen easily, leaving no residue or staining.

On better quality paper, the ink rewards closer attention: subtle purple-red sheen can appear at the edges of pooled ink, giving it more depth than the straightforward blue it first appears to be.

These cartridges bring the Iroshizuku experience to writers who prefer the convenience of a cartridge over a bottled ink and converter. Pilot selected Kon-peki as one of eleven colours from the Iroshizuku range to release in cartridge form, making it a considered choice rather than a complete line-up. Each box contains six cartridges, each holding 0.9ml of ink. The packaging mirrors the aesthetic of the Iroshizuku glass bottle, with an inner tray that slides out and catches before fully separating from the box. Each cartridge is individually printed with the ink's name.
