Faber-Castell Ondoro Precious Orange Resin 0.7mm Mechanical Pencil
There is something immediately arresting about the Ondoro. The hexagonal barrel, turned from high-gloss precious resin in a warm, saturated orange, catches the light in a way that most writing instruments simply do not. This is not a pencil that hides in a drawer - it is one you reach for deliberately.
Faber-Castell has been refining the craft of fine writing instruments for over 260 years, and the Ondoro sits firmly within that tradition. The precious resin body is polished to a deep, glassy finish that feels substantial in the hand without being heavy. Paired with highly polished chrome-plated metal at the tip and end cap, the contrast between warm orange and cool silver gives the pencil a quietly confident character - structured and geometric.
The hexagonal profile is not purely aesthetic. Six flat sides mean the pencil rests where you put it on a desk, and the shape distributes grip pressure evenly across the fingers, making it genuinely comfortable during extended writing sessions. The spring-loaded chrome clip is firm enough to hold securely in a breast pocket or notebook cover without marking either.
Lead advances via a smooth twist mechanism at the barrel, which is notably more refined than the button-tap mechanisms common on lesser pencils. There is no rattling, no misfeed - just a clean, controlled advance of the 0.7mm lead. That lead diameter strikes the right balance for most writing tasks: fine enough for precise annotation, broad enough to move quickly across a page without fragility. A replaceable eraser is concealed beneath the end cap, kept clean and ready when you need it.
The pencil is supplied in Faber-Castell's white gift box with slip case, making it a particularly thoughtful gift for anyone who takes their writing tools seriously.

What to Know Before You Buy
The 0.7mm lead grade supplied is B, which gives a smooth, slightly darker line than HB. If you prefer a harder, lighter line for technical work, replacement leads in other grades are available separately from Faber-Castell. The twist mechanism means there is no accidental lead advance in a bag or pocket - a genuine practical advantage over click-advance designs.
