Pilot Iroshizuku Fountain Pen Ink Cartridges - Shin-ryoku (Forest Green)
Shin-ryoku means "forest green" in Japanese, and Pilot has rendered it faithfully: a deep, settled green that calls to mind the unchanging colour of a dense evergreen forest in the middle of winter. There is nothing garish or novelty about it. It is the kind of green that looks at home on paper whether you are writing a letter, annotating a manuscript, or filling a journal.
These cartridges bring one of Pilot's most respected ink lines - the Iroshizuku collection - into a format that travels well and loads without ceremony. Each cartridge holds 0.9ml of water-based ink and is printed with the name of the colour, a small detail that reflects the care Pilot extends to the whole range. The box of six is designed to echo the distinctive packaging of the Iroshizuku bottled ink line, with a sliding inner tray and an internal latch that prevents it from pulling free entirely.
Pilot has made Iroshizuku available in cartridge form for eleven colours from the broader collection of twenty-four, and Shin-ryokuis among them. The word "iroshizuku" translates from Japanese as "drop of colour," and the collection lives up to that name — each shade draws from a specific natural phenomenon, plant, or landscape in Japan rather than a generic colour category.
The ink itself performs as you would expect from Pilot. The water-based formulation gives it excellent flow properties and keeps it low-odour - qualities that matter when you are writing at length. Shin-ryoku sits in the deep-to-medium range on the green spectrum: dark enough to read comfortably on white paper, but with enough character to distinguish it from standard black-alternative greens.
Compatibility
These cartridges are proprietary to Pilot and fit all Pilot and Namiki fountain pens that accept cartridges - including the Capless (Vanishing Point), the Falcon, the Metropolitan, the Custom series, and the Prera, among others. They are not compatible with standard international cartridge pens or other brands.
What is included
- 6 cartridges per box
- 0.9ml of ink per cartridge
- Water-based, dye ink
A note on format
If you already use Iroshizuku ink from the bottle with a converter, the cartridge version is a practical complement rather than a replacement - particularly useful when travelling or when you want to keep a second pen loaded without reaching for the bottle. The bottled ink works in any fountain pen fitted with a converter or piston-filling mechanism, while these cartridges are specific to Pilot, so the two formats serve slightly different purposes depending on your pen collection and habits.
