Pomegranate Christopher Marley’s Incredible Insects Memory Game

Christopher Marley's Incredible Insects Memory Game

There are memory games, and then there are objects that happen to be games. This is firmly the latter.

Christopher Marley is an Oregon-born artist whose work sits at the intersection of natural history and fine art. Where others see insects, Marley sees colour relationships, sculptural geometry, and a kind of structural perfection that took millions of years to arrive at. His photography and design work has earned a devoted following among collectors and naturalists alike, and this memory game brings 36 of his most striking specimens together in a format the whole household can use.

The 72 cards in the set - 36 matched pairs - feature beetles whose carapaces rival gemstones, moths with wings patterned like Persian silk, damselflies with an iridescence that shifts depending on how the light hits them, weevils in forms so strange they look designed by a sculptor rather than evolution, and butterflies whose markings are precise enough to use for identification. The imagery is reproduced at high quality, true to Marley's originals, with the kind of colour fidelity that rewards close attention.

The rules are printed on the base of the box, so nothing gets lost. All 72 cards store neatly back inside between games. And for anyone who wants to know more, a 40-page information booklet is included, with details on each featured species and its origins. Children often find this the most absorbing part.

The game plays with two or more participants, with no upper age limit and no real lower one either - younger children tend to be better at this than their parents, which is half the entertainment.

What's in the box

  • 72 square cards (36 pairs), each measuring 6.4 × 6.4cm, printed on durable stock built to handle repeated play.
  • The box measures 7.6 × 10.8 × 7.6cm and is compact enough to travel in a bag or sit on a shelf without taking up meaningful space.
  • A 40-page illustrated booklet is included.

About Christopher Marley
Marley grew up in Oregon catching reptiles and observing wildlife, but for much of his early life had a genuine aversion to insects. The change, when it came, was total. Drawn in by their jewel-like pigmentation, the precision of their mechanics, and the extraordinary variety of forms across species, he began travelling to remote habitats to observe and collect specimens. Every organism in his work is preserved in its natural state, colours true to life, and collected with environmental sensitivity. The result is art that functions as both aesthetic object and natural history document.

A note on gifting
This is the kind of gift that works for a naturalist, a design-minded friend, a curious child, or anyone who appreciates things made with more care than the occasion strictly demands. It sits at an accessible price point while looking and feeling like something worth keeping.
