Pilot iroshizuku Fountain Pen Ink Cartridge - Ama-iro

Pilot Iroshizuku Fountain Pen Ink Cartridges — Ama-iro (Sky Blue)

There are blues, and then there is ama-iro. The name translates simply as "sky colour" in Japanese, and Pilot has rendered it with the kind of precision that earns that name honestly: a clear, luminous sky blue that sits distinctly apart from turquoise, from navy, from the murkier interpretations of the colour that clutter lesser ink ranges. On the page, it shades gently and carries a faint pink sheen in broader strokes, giving the ink a quiet depth that rewards close attention.

Ama-iro is part of Pilot's Iroshizuku collection, a range built around the natural landscapes and botanical imagery of Japan. The line's name combines the Japanese words "iro" (colouring) and "shizuku" (droplet), and the inks live up to that etymology: each one is characteristically smooth-flowing, well-behaved on a wide range of papers, and consistent from the first word to the last drop of a cartridge.

This cartridge format brings that same ink into a practical, no-fuss format for everyday carry and use. Each of the six cartridges holds 0.9 ml of ink and is printed with the ink's name, so there is no guessing once you have a few colours in your collection. The packaging itself is worth noting: the sliding inner tray and the box design deliberately echo the aesthetic of Iroshizuku's celebrated glass ink bottles, right down to the quality of the materials. It does not feel like an afterthought.

Compatibility
These are proprietary Pilot cartridges, compatible with the full range of Pilot and Namiki fountain pens that accept cartridges. This includes the Vanishing Point, Custom 74, Metropolitan, Kakuno, Prera, and Explorer, among others. They are not compatible with standard international cartridge systems.

In the box
Six Pilot Iroshizuku Ama-iro ink cartridges, each containing 0.9 ml of ink, presented in the Iroshizuku collector-style slide-tray box.

A note on the ink
Ama-irois a dye-based ink. It is not waterproof once dry, which is the expected behaviour for a fountain pen ink of this type. Flow is consistently described as smooth and on the wetter side of medium, which makes it forgiving in finer nibs and genuinely enjoyable in broader ones. Dry time on standard paper is approximately 15 seconds with a medium nib.
