There is something quietly ambitious about giving yourself a full page every day. The MD Notebook 1 Day 1 Page A5 is built around that premise: 368 pages, one per day, each measuring a generous A5 (210 × 148 × 20 mm), giving you room to write at length rather than compress your thoughts into a few lines.

The paper
MD PAPER is the foundation everything else is built on. Designphil has been developing it in-house since the 1960s, and the result is a sheet that rewards close attention: slightly textured to the touch, responsive under a nib, and properly resistant to bleed-through and feathering even from a wet fountain pen.

At 80 gsm it holds ink cleanly without adding unnecessary bulk. Writing on it produces a faint, satisfying sound - something fountain pen users and those who appreciate the physical act of writing will notice immediately.

The binding
368 pages is a substantial block of paper to keep flat, and the codex binding achieves it without compromise. The book opens fully from the first page to the last, lying flat on a desk without needing to be held open or weighted down. Each page corner is perforated so that finished pages can be torn away cleanly, and the perforation doubles as a visual marker to quickly find where you left off.

Ruling options
The blank layout is exactly what it says - no lines, no grid, no constraints. A small space at the foot of each page accommodates a date and page number if you want to keep things organised, but the surface is otherwise entirely open. It suits those who move between prose and sketching, or who simply dislike being guided by a grid.

The dot grid layout uses a 5 mm spacing, fine enough to keep handwriting aligned without the visual weight of a full ruled line. Two of the dots on each page are slightly enlarged to make date-writing easier - a small detail, but a considered one.

Included
Index stickers are included so you can mark sections on the inside cover and locate periods of your life at a glance once the notebook is complete. A dedicated transparent cover is available separately for those who want to protect the notebook while keeping its appearance understated.
